Don't go without the 2nd Edition Cadogan Guide to Tanzania and Zanzibar - writen by Annie - one of our consultants

Tanzania's Mainland Coast

Mainland Tanzanian beaches tend to be more private than those in Zanzibar, but do not offer diving. Ras Kutani and Amani Beach Club offer totally different styles of accommodation, although both are extremely comfortable and provide a very high level of service and cuisine.

Anyone dreaming of absolute seclusion far from the madding crowds should consider heading to these beaches south of the Dar es Salaam, where the sea has invigorating waves and the sand is fine and lies in huge, soft drifts...

Alternatively Lazy lagoon, private island, is the place to stay North of Dar.

Ras Kutani
Ras Kutani is is a well-established and elegant beach hideaway designed in a simple style to suit the surroundings. It sits in a cushion of tropical forest on the banks of a wide freshwater lagoon, and access is via a short walk through wooded paths and a row across the natural pool to a welcoming wood jetty. The lodge has just twelve private and well spaced bandas along with 3 private suites that extend through a fragrant hillside of tropical forest to the powder-soft beach below.
