   DR. BODEN HONOURED

Dr John Boden (Picture), (MSA’s “resident” doctor and President of MSA’s Medical Panel) who also served on the FIM’s International Medical Panel or Collège Médical International (CMI for the last 12 years), was given honorary membership of this International Panel at the FIM’s International Congress in Durban.

The CMI as it is commonly known, is a specialist panel of doctors from FIM member countries.

Working together with other FIM Commissions and Panels, the CMI advocates on two primary medical issues, namely the physical criteria each rider must fulfil in order to hold a competition license and standards of Medical Services to be provided for FIM events.

Dr Hans-Robert Kreutz, President of the FIM Medical Panel, said the Panel looses its “Genius” following Dr Boden’s retirement. “Specialising in emergency medicine, he contributed a lot to every issue and the Panel could always rely on his opinion”.

   LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION

R10 000 to be won in Environmental Logo design competition!

Motorsport in search of an Environmental Logo

Motorsport South Africa (MSA) has just launched a Environmental Logo Design Competition with a prize fund of R10 000 for the winning logo design.

MSA currently does not have a logo that display Environmental Awareness and would like to open up the logo design competition to all individuals, including designers and artists.

The logo chosen from the results of the design competition will become the Environmental logo symbol for MSA. It will appear on their website, decals, official documentation, banners etc.

The logo must depict motorsport and the environment and has to contain the words Motorsport South Africa as well as an applicable slogan addressing motorsport and the environment. The colours are restricted to green and white only.

The competition closes on 16 January 2009 at 12:00.

Mrs Beaulah Schoeman, Managing Director of MSA, says MSA was the first National Federation to officially adopt an Environmental Code. “MSA wishes to be at the forefront of environmental awareness and protection amongst all motorsport competitors, their crews, organizers and race officials in South African and thereby setting an example to the supporting public and all motorists.

Printed entries must be submitted on an A4 to: Postal: Motorsport South Africa, PO Box 11499, Vorna Valley, 1686 and electronic submissions can be send in PDF-format to pr@motorsportsa.co.za.

Each submission must be accompanied by the entrant’s full name, address, telephone number and e-mail address as well as a description of the design/concept.

For more information with regards to the competition CLICK HERE, or contact Estie du Toit 0861 MSA MSA, 0861 672 672 672.

   MSA OFFICIAL BULLETIN

As you are no doubt aware, MSA has in the past printed and posted a quarterly MSA Official Bulletin, with an electronic copy posted on the MSA Website.

In future, only 1 copy of the quarterly MSA Official Bulletin (which will still contain adverts), will be printed and posted at the end of the year. This was decided by the MSA Board of Directors at its previous board meeting.

The other three copies from January to August will only be published electronically on the MSA Website under “MSA Bulletin”.

A number of reasons led to this decision. It was taken to not only reduce paper usage in the interest of protecting the environment, but also to keep costs as low as possible. The cost of printing and especially postage has increased substantially.

The board is also of the opinion that with the introduction of MSA’s eNewsletter, competitors, officials, clubs, associations, commissions, panels and regional committees are kept abreast of news.

Adverts from advertisers who have booked advertising space in 2008 will therefore be published in the December issue.

Please contact Estie du Toit should you have any queries in this regard.

   About MSA

Welcome to the MSA web site.

Motorsport is controlled worldwide by two governing bodies: the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) responsible for all forms of automobile sport, and the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), responsible for all categories of motorcycling. The Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK), forms part of the FIA.

Both the FIA and FIM recognise only one National Federation in each country, with such Federation in turn being responsible for the control and administration of the sport in its own country. In South Africa, the FIA and FIM have transferred their sporting powers to Motorsport - South Africa (MSA) and all motorsporting events in the country are held in accordance with FIA and FIM Sporting Codes. South Africa is one of only a few countries responsible for the control of both car and motorcycle sporting events, with most other countries having separate governing bodies for the two disciplines.

There has never been any discrimination in motorsport, and before any club's application for affiliation to MSA is considered, the club has to provide a copy of its Constitution to MSA, wherein it must be clearly stated that there will be no discrimination between race, colour, creed or religion within the club. The MSA Handbook further specifies this in the “Introduction” Section.

The control of motorsport in South Africa is divided into six regions, namely Northern Regions; Kwazulu Natal; Western Province; Eastern Province; Border and FS/Northern Cape
