Mazabuka District
Hospital
Recently Mazabuka
District Hospital held an open day and conducted tours to increase
the awareness of Mazabuka locals about the role the hospital plays
in the community. It's obvious that the hospital has made gains in
many areas, notably the new maternity ward and operating room and
delivers the best service possible with the facilities that they
have available. The improvements can be attributed largely to the
motivated staff, generous funding and maintenance by Zambia Sugar
and donations and involvement by community members. However there is
definitely still room for improvement! An issue that needs to be
addressed with urgency is the lack of lab technicians, with only one
currently employed. The Matron estimated that a team of six lab
technicians is actually required to process all the samples taken in
the district. The laundry desperately needs new washing machines and
dryers, as the current equipment dates back to the 1970's! As
community members we can all make a big difference, by donating
carpets, bedding, curtains, toys, exercise equipment, materials (for
mattress covers, nurses uniforms etc) even excess fruit and
vegetables to ensure that the hospital is able to cater for all
patients. For more information on how you can help please contact

Cricket
Mazabuka hosted Choma in a hotly contested cricket match at Mazabuka
Club on 16 June. Unfortunately for Maz the result didn't go our way!
(Choma 223/8, Mazabuka 169 all out). The club's new cricket pitch
withstood the pressure and is a credit to all members who have
donated time, equipment etc to create it. It was a great day and
sure to be repeated soon.
Musikili
The annual
Musikili School Golf Competiton was held on Saturday 9th June. We
had an extremely successful day, with 100 players participating, and
our biggest thanks go to the many sponsors who supported us this
year and thus made the whole event possible. Thank you to the
Mazabuka Golf Club and Committee for their efforts in ensuring a
good day out for all players and spectators alike. The competiton
was Modified Greensomes with teams of two players. The winning team
was the ladies team of E Kabbudula and M Masupha, with 45 Stapleford
Points (equivalent to 9 under par!!). The two players winning the
"Nearest The Pin" category were Ros Fraser and Johno Taylor whilst
Longest Drive for Women was won by Sue Club and Longest Drive for
Men by Keith Russell. All funds raised go towards improving the
facilities at Musikili Primary School as well as a percentage
donated to a local charity.
Don't forget: Musikili Primary School's 20th anniversary luncheon is
being held on 15 July. Tickets are K100,000 per person and are
available from Musikili Primary School Office, Mazabuka Marketing,
Priscilla at Bush Buzz in Kilimanjaro Coffee Shop, Manda Hill.
