Since its establishment
in 1991, LISCO has
implemented a policy of
continual improvement of its
facilities by upgrading
existing plants and
introducing new production
lines with the aim to meet
increasing domestic demand
and diversify its product
mix to increase its export
share of overseas markets.
In recent years, a
number of new projects were
commissioned which are
currently operational:
- In 2005 Expansion of strip
pickling line and a new AR
station
- In 2007 New wire drawing,
galvanizing and coating
lines
In 2004 LISCO
commissioned the Industrial
Research Centre to prepare
the techno-economic studies
for the expansion scheme of
its plants to a capacity of
3 Mt/y of liquid steel and
commenced the implementation
of Phase 1 of the scheme in
SMS 1 to achieve a capacity
of 1.14 Mt/y of liquid
steel.
Due to unprecedented
demand on steel products and
raw materials in domestic
and overseas markets, review
and updating of the
expansion scheme was seen
necessary.
In 2006 LISCO
commissioned Dastur
Engineering International to
upgrade the previous study
and prepare a new Master
Plan to achieve an annual
capacity of 4.168 Mt of
liquid steel, The Master
Plan was approved in August
2007 by LISCOs General Board
andthe commencement of the
Master Plan implementation
is currently underway
